so i wanted to get this up last week…but i was trying to hook you all up! i have some demos of this song, and another version, but it’s taking some time to get cleared by everyone. the last thing i want is to get sued…however…hopefully by next week i’ll have something to post. i always post about the song meanings etc, but i would love for you to hear the song being born and what it was like as a little infant :) i just have one question for you guys…
can you keep a secret?
everyone loves to be behind the scenes. whether it’s special features on your “The Dark Knight” dvd or whether it’s the tram tour at Universal studios, so i am going to try to give you a behind the scenes look at this little guy.
eyes are amazing if you think about it. the fact that what the common eyes see are just a series of reflections through the most thin pieces of our body is fascinating. but what is behind the eye? not literally..but what goes on that we don’t see? eyes do not see all. they don’t even see half of it. we live in a world of secrecy, debate, and speculation, and us humans are no different.
the words of this song, tell the story of a secret relationship. one that if the secret were to get out, a world, a heart, and a love could be destroyed. we say we’re happy..but are we really happy? people go quite the distance when they see something that they want, whether they are single or not. if there’s a wall in their way, they’ll climb it…if there’s an ocean, they’ll swim across. it’s human tendency and instinct to follow their heart..but it can be deadly and extremely hurtful to someone else. the song opens with the line “it’s true that i’m a silver shadow and you are always on my mind.” it sets the setting that the man is extrmemely secretive, and he is putting his feelings for a beautiful stranger on the table. He tells the beautiful young lady that her “secret is safe” and “no one has to know i’m your getaway.” this story is one of lust. one of extreme temptation. the man is being extremely forceful and inviting with his words.
at first..it seems like the story is about an affair. a secret affair, where someone’s heart is being shattered into a thousand pieces..but is that what the song is really about?
i have always looked at this song at being about choices. almost like the story of adam and eve and the forbidden fruit. though the man is extremely attractive to the girl, guilt is taking overher mind causing her body, mind, and heart to be in a severe and dark battle with one another. you see, in the song..i never give an ending. he tells her “soon we’ll head to a place where i’ll prove i’m all you want and more,” but does she go? does she accept the invitation? the truth is…there is no ending. the two are left with the decision, and the decision they make could have a HUGE effect on alot more than they realize. though i’m sure the night would be amazing..is it worth ruining what she’s worked so hard to build back at home? or does the attraction prove that your heart lies somewhere other than you originally thought? where do you draw the thin line between love and lust?
i have actually never cheated on a girl. my heart won’t allow me to…so this song isn’t about a secret relationship of mine… just a story on how the human mind and heart battle each other about the easiest of decisions that can be the most difficult to make.
we are all faced with choices every day. i guess the moral of this story is to just think things through before you do them. choices can have a nasty domino effect..and i have definately been a victim of that. do what is right..and do what YOU know is the best choice. live life freely and follow your dreams, but remember not to hurt people or destroy theirs on your way. it isn’t always worth it… or is it?
that choice is yours.
